Overview

Designed for experienced managers and professionals as well as
early-career graduates, this MSc builds academic qualifications
essential for modern career progression.

Programme content includes: the processes of project management -initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, controlling and product closure. The knowledge areas of evaluation, reflection and learning and are also covered; Microsoft Project Management ® and e-learning
resources are available to support students. Case studies drawn from different industry, organisation and application settings explore key issues including leadership and conflict resolution, reflecting current research and best practice. Students have regular contact with
industry experts and visiting Professors and the opportunity to undertake a work experience placement to make industry links.

The MSc is developed in partnership with industry leaders, and is one of only ten Universities in the UK to be accredited by the Association for Project Management (APM) and the International Project Management Association (IPMA).

Project management relies on good governance and compliance, Allison Wylde course leader works with an international team as a member of the ASIS international commission on standards and governance, we also work closely with agencies including the British Standards Institute (BSI). Our researchers work with London Metropolitan Business School research centres and institutes including the Cities Institute, the Centre for International Business and Sustainability and the Security Industry Observatory.

Applicants normally require a good honours degree. We welcome those without a degree who have degree-equivalent qualifications and an appropriate level of work experience. Professional qualifications from approved professional bodies, including security and ex-military will be considered: all applications will be judged on individual merit. International candidates are welcome and encouraged to apply.

Course contents

Five core modules, one optional module and a dissertation of around 15,000 words. Aligned with the PMI and APM 'Body of Knowledge'.

  • Project Management Organisation and Behaviour
  • Research methods

Optional module/study:

  • One module from the post-graduate catalogue

Specialist academic and study-skill support is available.

Assessment

Assessment is through individual and group work which includes essays, reports, presentations and research projects and a final dissertation.

Collaborative and international links

The MSc in Project Management has been successfully accredited through the Association of Project Management and internationally recognised through the International Project Management Association (IPMA).

Include international industry experts, professional associations, standards and governance organisations and LMBS researchers from the Cities Institute, the Centre for International Business and Sustainability at London Metropolitan Business School and the Security Industry Observatory. The MSc is taught in the City of London at Moorgate Campus, next to the Crossrail transport link, one of the largest 'project management' infrastructure developments in Europe. We anticipate dissertations will be written in collaboration with participants’ own organisations, and with our partners, research institutes and centres; giving individuals the chance to specialise.

Careers

Successful completion helps build resilient managers able to manage projects to recognised standards of quality. Progression to research is possible through PhD, the Doctorate of Business Administration or Professional Doctorates.
