Aims of the courseThe executive-style MBA is the premier qualification for individuals wishing to progress to strategic-level positions in their organisation. It aims to provide a rigorous grounding in the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary for participants to operate effectively as strategic general managers in a variety of environments. Our course offers:
The University's provision in Business and Management was rated 'Excellent' in recent subject reviews by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education, and this MBA complies fully with all QAA benchmarks. Key features of the course are the Masters conference, held over a weekend at the start of the course, and a week-long international study visit to a major European city in Stage Two. Teaching groups are small as we believe that personal attention is necessary for success on an MBA, and there is an emphasis on teamwork and personal development. Entry requirementsAn Honours degree, or equivalent professional qualification, or a Diploma in Management Studies (DMS), plus at least three years of post-graduation management experience. Applicants with a Diploma in Management Studies (DMS) or professional qualifications may be exempt from all, or part of Stage One of the course. Course structureThis Executive-style MBA is divided into two stages. Stage One lasts one year and consists of six modules, which give a solid grounding in all the key business functions. Stage Two which follows relates the material of Stage One to major strategic issues. The core modules are:
The dissertation, which follows completion of the taught modules, is a major piece of work of approximately 15,000 words, based on research into an organisation. The Research Methods module in Stage Two of the course prepares you for this and the dissertation is normally submitted at the end of the semester after completion of Stage Two of the course. Career opportunitiesSuccessful MBA graduates are more likely to gain increased responsibilities at work, secure promotion and in general enjoy enhanced career opportunities.
