Aims of the courseThe equality and diversity agenda, including such areas as gender, ethnicity, sexuality and disability, has become an integral part of both the organisation of labour and of the work of governmental and non-governmental institutions. The course is designed for those who wish to work as both policy-makers and practitioners in these areas. It is likely to be of interest to graduates in Human Resources Management; Social Policy and Sociology; Trade Union Studies; Women's Studies; Public Administration, Business Studies, as well as to workers in the voluntary sector, local government, civil service and the corporate sector. The course addresses the effective management of diversity in business in the context of globalisation, labour migration and demographic changes, as well as the widening equality agenda that includes not only anti-discrimination legislation, but also issues of changing organisational cultures and attitudes, promoting a more productive work-life balance, and identifying, disseminating and encouraging best practice. The course thus offers the opportunity to gain the high-level specialist skills in analysis, policy-making, planning and programme management that are necessary for effectively addressing the challenges of diversity in the 21st century. You will study theories of equality and diversity, management strategies and policy development and implementation with an emphasis on case study analysis. Entry requirementsMinimum entry requirement will normally be a lower second-class Honours degree. Applicants will also be considered who have a relevant professional qualification and/or extensive relevant professional experience, gained in either a policy, human resources, or management environment Course structureAll students take four core modules and undertake a supervised dissertation of 15,000 words.
