A new chapter for Aldgate Library

Art and design collection joins Aldgate Library alongside major refurbishment and facilities upgrade.

Date: 11 October 2016

It was a busy summer for London Met's Library Services team, who have reconfigured Aldgate Library as part of a major improvement project.

The library has welcomed collections from The Sir John Cass School of Art, Architecure and Design which has moved to Calcutta House from its previous home in Commercial Road.

The Aldgate Library now encompasses 12 study rooms across 3 floors, along with a completely refurbished atrium.

There are library lounges on the ground and first floors, group zones where students can relax on comfortable seating, and computer desks.

Catherine Phillpotts, University Librarian (Library Services & Special Collections), said: "A great deal of work has gone into making the Aldgate Library a resourceful mine of information enabling students to delve deeply into their areas of interest.  They'll be able to make the very most of their study time, especially in group work. We warmly welcome Cass students as well as Business & Law students to their new library.

Our aim is to achieve excellence in customer service across all our library services and we plan to run a satisfaction survey in December to receive the views of students and act on any highlighted areas."
