A Pub-in-a-Cab and illuminated food light up The Cass MA Show 2015

Multi-disciplinary art forms will take over The Cass Bank Gallery in a display of exceptional postgraduate art work.

Date: 15 September 2015

The Cass MA Show 2015 will take place from the 16-19 September, opening with a Private View on the 15 September from 6pm to 10pm.

The exhibition will feature work from taught and research postgraduate courses in Art, Architecture and Design.

Disciplines represented include Fashion; Textiles; Fine Art; Furniture; Graphics; Interiors; Jewellery and Silversmithing; Music; Photography; Product Design; Spatial Planning and Urban Design; Architecture, History, Theory and Interpretation and more.

Fine Art student Lucy Schofield's refurbished London black cab has been made in collaboration with The Geezers, as part of their Where's My Boozer Gone project which addresses issues related to the loss of East End Pubs. Lucy’s London black cab has taken a traditional Hackney Carriage and installed a mobile pub inside it.

Photographer Ahmel Mafhouf has explored East London and its late night culture, using alcohol as a medium to make Drunk Films. Her negatives have been soaked in red wine or vodka creating random, unpredictable patterns and colour shifts on the images reflecting the state of mind of her subjects.

Product Designer Gloria Vigano is more concerned with food than drink. Her innovative Food Sensor & Presenter is designed to match diner nutrition data with what's on the plate, making priority foods more attractive through targeted illumination. Gloria will be presenting a research paper in New York in November, at the 2nd International Conference on Food Design, an event established by former Cass tutor and PhD scholar, Francesca Zampolo.

Making is well represented in the show with carefully crafted objects including Jewellery by Juliette Bigley and Carol Hunt of MA by Project, and bowls by PhD Student Misun Song from the same course.

The image chosen for the invitations to the show is by Yasmina Jameel, part of her Tea and Talks series which focus on depression. The project aims to use illustration to better communicate the existing mental health services and networks of Tower Hamlets to its residents, taking the form of a series of Tea and Talk events held at Toynbee Hall.

The MA Show takes place during the annual London Design Festival when all eyes in the international design world turn to London.

In addition to the MA work, The Cass will also be exhibiting the best of this year’s Undergraduate Design Work at Tent London
