Have you applied for the London Met Graduate Scheme?

Full-time, paid internships across the University are available to London Met alumni who graduated this summer.

Date: 10 August 2015

Have you graduated from London Met this summer? If so, you are eligible to join the University’s Graduate Internship Scheme, offering a range of roles across the institution.

From PR and marketing to supporting academic faculties, there is something for everyone in this year’s Scheme. Interns work full-time and are paid the London Living Wage as they develop skills and experience in their challenging positions.

Placements are across London Met and offer graduates a vital first-step onto the career ladder. Interns can work in a wide range of areas.

Great learning opportunity

The contribution of last year’s interns has been widely felt across the University, with new events and fundraising initiatives being launched. Gabriele Butkute, one of the interns in the Faculty of Life Sciences and Computing, had a busy internship, working across all three schools in the Faculty. Her work involved managing social media, assisting with communications and marketing tasks, in addition to launching a new employability initiative, London Met FUTURE. The BSc Biomedical Science graduate said the transition from being a student to a member of staff was not too difficult, as she had always been active at the University as a student.

“Everybody made me feel very welcome,” Gabriele said. “During my internship I got to attend external workshops on social media and effective communication, as well as two national conferences on enterprise education, which I thoroughly enjoyed.”

An inspiring environment

Shaema, a Marketing Intern at Accelerator, London Met’s business incubator, also enjoyed her internship. She created promotional material for internal and external events, designed websites, and promoted various events on social media.

“For my internship at Accelerator I’ve gotten to meet a lot of self-motivated and entrepreneurial students and graduates from London Met,” she said. “It is a very inspiring and positive environment to be in, and I feel I’ve learned a lot in a short space of time. It’s also great to be able to participate in and contribute to the University after graduating!”

A helping hand for graduates

Neelam Thapar, Head of Careers and Employability at the University, is delighted that London Met is able to give graduates a helping hand into the world of work. She said: “This is an excellent way of building and applying the skills you gained at university while also gaining additional training and support to help with future career development.

“Graduate interns will participate in a stimulating range of development opportunities encompassing communicating effectively, team development, being an employee and career development planning.”

Internships last for either nine or twelve months. To be eligible, you must have graduated from London Metropolitan University this summer.

The application deadline is Friday 21 August 2015.
