Web design for breakfast
On Wednesday 23 January, the Alumni Association hosted a Breakfast Club for IT and Digital Media alumni at the Hilton Hotel, Upper Street Islington. From 7.30-9am alumni were invited to enjoy a complimentary full English breakfast at during which they could share knowledge and discuss their views on the implementation of digital and design products.
The speaker was Postgraduate alumnus, Richard Copestake, CEO of Red Ink Creative, who graduated from London Met with an MSC in Multimedia Systems in 2002. Richard spoke to an audience of around 20 graduates about the issues related to project specification, design briefing and the roll-out of large-scale web development projects.
He also discussed the need for some form of a client education process within projects which would enable clients, designers and programmers to mutually understand the project aims.
‘Clients come in all shapes and sizes and at all levels of web development knowledge’, said Richard. He added: ‘This is an important factor to consider as a designer, when assessing how to approach a project.’
Red Ink Creative is a full-service digital design and technology agency based in London, working digitally and in print design. The company’s main focus is to facilitate and improve online marketing, advertising and business strategies.
Specialising in web design and build, Red Ink Creative has developed sites with usability and accessibility in mind. The agency has worked on accessible sites audited by the Royal National Institute of Blind People for over three years.
London Metropolitan University’s business incubator, Accelerator is also among the company's clientele. Accelerator requested exhibition scale designs to help celebrate an international collaboration between the University and Malaysia’s Multimedia Development Corporation. Red Ink Creative also produced promotional leaflets and posters, as well as a website, for Accelerator’s Business Boost project in Hackney. Other clients include Tesco and Sainsburys.
The Breakfast Club is a forum for ambitious and accomplished graduates. London Met staff and special guests are invited to attend these meetings to speak on topical subjects such as business start-up and development, work issues, careers and personal development. Graduates are encouraged to share their knowledge and experiences, and to air their views. The Breakfast Club also provides a networking opportunity for graduates.
