Students' Union Book Fair a big success
London Metropolitan University Students’ Union ran its first second-hand book fair on Monday 28 February.
The event gave students the chance to sell or exchange textbooks with their peers at the University.
'I had loads of books from my course last year which I had read and didn’t really need anymore. The fair was a great way to make some extra money and clear some space on my bookshelf at home,’ said one of the students.
As well as books from a variety of academic fields, there were stalls selling all kinds of books, from various genres including fiction, philosophy, travel and even a few celebrity autobiographies.
Monty Sultan, Vice President of the Students' Union said: ' I was happy to see so many students with an appetite for reading. There is clearly a strong demand within the University for events like this, where students can pick up course textbooks at a reduced price and discover new books which are relevant to their studies.'
The fair was held at the popular Met Lounge, a social space at Goulston Street. The venue launched in October with the aim of offering students a relaxing environment to meet and gain free access to wireless internet and daily newspapers.
Following the warm response from students, the Students’ Union has already made plans to arrange more book fairs in the near future. In addition the Students’ Union is to relaunch the online book sale scheme ‘Books4u,’ so that students can buy and sell text books online.
