Six Bangaldeshi students win full scholarships

London Metropolitan University recently confirmed that six Bangladeshi students have won full scholarships to study for their masters degrees at the University, starting in February 2008.

The six scholarship students are, Shakera Siddiky for MA Corporate Social Responsibility, Kaniz Batul for MA Marketing, Mr Md Abdullah Al Maruf for MSc Information Systems Development, Ms Fariya Sharmeen for MA City Regeneration, Ms Shamsun Nahar for MSc Accounting and Finance and Mr Abul Himu Hasnat for MSc Digital Communications Networks.

Mark Bickerton, Director of Student Recruitment and International Development said: ‘Bangladeshi students have always performed well at London Met but this is really amazing! Out of 14 scholarships awarded for the February session as part of a worldwide competition, six have been won by Bangladeshi students. This underlines the excellent academic achievements of students from Bangladesh.’

Abul Himu Hasnat won his scholarship through the University's Alumni programme, having graduated from London Met with outstanding marks in his bachelors. Shakera Siddiky, who has won a scholarship under the University's programme in honour of Dr Muhammad Shahidullah said: ‘This is a great honour for me and I am really looking forward to studying in London.’ Ms Siddiky was awarded the scholarship in recognition of both her academic brilliance and her wide-ranging extra-curricular activities.

Former London Met scholarship student Md Khaleq Nawaz, now a lecturer at BRAC University, said: ‘It’s great to see so many Bangladeshi students winning scholarships in this way. Doing my MSc at London Met really changed my life and it was an amazing experience.’

Scholarships are awarded twice yearly by a panel of academic staff at the University. They are judged in terms of academic excellence and the extent to which the applicant's study will enhance the economic and social development of their home country when they return there after completion of their course.
