Polymer student awarded first place on Vice-Chancellor's List

London Metropolitan Polymer Centre student Abilash Kumar (pictured) has been awarded first place on the Vice-Chancellors List for the 100 highest scoring masters graduates. The Vice-Chancellor’s List represents the top achievers in the University’s taught programmes and all of those on the list graduated with a Distinction in their masters course.

Abilash, who studied for his bachelors degree at the Mahatma Gandhi University in Kerala, India, was awarded a distinction for his MSc in Polymer Science at London Met. He graduated with the highest overall marks, beating 2,000 other master graduates to first place on the Vice-Chancellors List.

On receiving his masters degree at a ceremony in London last week, Abilash said: ‘I am so proud of the fact that I received a Distinction and was also delighted to find out that I had graduated with the highest overall mark of all masters graduates of 2007.’

Abilash is hoping to further his career in plastics and polymer engineering. He said: ‘Under the International Graduates Scheme, I am currently working with a London based medical device manufacturing company in their research and development laboratory. Polymer science is part and parcel of my life and to further research in this field is my ultimate goal.’

Mark Bickerton, Director of Student Recruitment and International Development, said: ‘Abilash's excellent achievement here shows what Indian students are capable of. To leave home and study for a demanding masters course is difficult enough, but to come top takes something really special.’
