London Met launches in Nigeria
London Met's Nigeria office formally opened on 26 October 2004, with a launch event in Lagos. The office is based in the Africa Re building, Victoria Island, and provides a full service for students wanting to study at the University, as well as supporting alumni on their return to Nigeria.
Mark Bickerton, the University’s director of student recruitment, marketing and communications, said: “London Metropolitan University is the number one UK University for Nigerian students (source HESA 2002/3). With this office, we aim to further expand our services for Nigerian students, as well as developing links between the UK and Nigeria.”
Adrienne Clarke, head of international recruitment added: “This office is an important addition to our international presence which now spans Bangladesh, Brussels, China, India, Nigeria and Pakistan.”
More than 80 people attended the launch event, including many local education contacts and London Met alumni. Guests heard from Dr Mudukele Obisesan, mother of three London Met students including one who recently graduated with a first class honours degree in business economics and finance.
Former student, Mr Ibrahim Musa also told his story from the completion of his MA in international economics and trade in 2003, to his current position as HR advisor for
northern Nigeria at MTL Telecom.
Mr Dele Ogun, who graduated in 1984 to start the first black commercial law firm in the City of London, also spoke about his experience at London Met.
The Nigeria office is run by director, Mrs Funke Mayaki, who was previously manager of the development of educational services at the British Council in Lagos.
The University would like to thank the continued support and assistance given by the British Council and British High Commission, Nigeria.
