New partnership to strengthen adult learning in London

London Metropolitan University and City Lit have recently announced their intention to collaborate on a wide range of new initiatives as part of an exciting and ground-breaking relationship between Higher and Adult Education for London.

City Lit is the biggest adult education centre in Europe with over 3,000 courses. It has a long standing reputation of offering stimulating and flexible courses for adults.

The institution offers courses ranging from 22 languages, to art, writing, computer and life skills. City Lit also offers a huge range of programmes in unique and specialist areas, including courses for deaf adults, stammering therapy and provision for students with learning disabilities. They have recently been awarded the Queen’s Anniversary Prize, bestowed for outstanding work in higher and further education, for their speech therapy provision.

London Met is one of the UK's most diverse universities. Located in the heart of the City, the University has around 30,000 students, including almost 7,000 international students from 155 different countries. The University has a strong history of offering education opportunities to mature and adult students.

The two institutions have agreed to collaborate on a variety of new initiatives including the development of joint UK-US partnerships and programmes, opening up new progression routes into Higher Education for adults, curriculum and staff development, links with business, and bringing together the best of adult and Higher Education for London.

Speaking about the partnership, London Met Deputy Vice Chancellor Dr Bob Aylett, said: ‘City Lit is a unique organisation focusing on adult education, so I am very pleased that we are working together in this way. Together, this partnership will enable both of us to do things we would not be able to do alone.’
