Multimedia student offered job a top research centre
London Metropolitan University student Delroy Nelson, who is studying for a Foundation Degree in Multimedia, has been offered a job as an IT Technician for the Deafness Cognition and Language Research Centre (DCAL) at University College London.
After working in the IT industry for 14 years, Delroy decided to pursue his interest in multimedia by taking up a Multimedia course at London Met. Whilst studying, Delroy was given the opportunity to take up a three-month work placement with DCAL, working on their new website.
In his position as IT technician, Delroy has been involved with various DCAL-related multimedia projects, and he is hoping to continue his work at DCAL by combining his work experience, degree and knowledge of sign language to produce an educational game for deaf children.
Delroy commented on his aspirations for the future: ‘I am very keen to use my knowledge of multimedia and sign language to produce an educational game for Deaf children, which I began developing whilst at university’.
DCAL provides a unique perspective on language and thought, based on Deaf people's communication. The centre places sign language and Deaf people at the centre of the understanding of how language and communication work within linguistics, psychology and child development.
