London Met win BUSA Table Tennis Championships

On 16 and 17 February London Metropolitan University’s Table Tennis team were in Nottingham playing in the British Universities Sports Association (BUSA) Individual Table Tennis Championships.

The team won four out of the five titles on offer, losing out to Middlesex University only. They won the Men's Singles, Women's Singles, Men's Doubles and Mixed Doubles, and were runners-up in the Women’s Doubles.

The victories see London Met adding another national championship to its belt, following recent championship wins in hockey, basketball and tennis.

Fe Ming Tong won the Women’s Singles final and went on to play in the Mixed Doubles final. The finalists playing in the Mixed Doubles were all students from London Met. After an exciting match, Fe Ming Tong and Tiang Chang Hong secured the title.

The Men’s Singles finalists were also all from London Met, with Tiang Chang Hong and Zhang Hong Ming competing for the trophy. BUSA representatives described it as an exhibition standard match. Tiang Chang Hong won the Gold medal, with two other London Met students taking home the Silver and Bronze.

The University’s Vice-Chancellor Brian Roper said: ‘This is a fantastic achievement and continues to highlight London Met’s sporting excellence. Our investment in facilities and training is really paying off here and the team deserve all our congratulations.’
