London Met welcomes new scholarship students

London Metropolitan University celebrated the achievements of its new scholarship students at an official ceremony.

Over 100 people attended the event, which was designed to welcome 20 new scholarship students to the University and to celebrate their success.

William King, former Master of the Worshipful Company of World Traders, gave a fascinating speech on the global economy. He joined the Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive, Brian Roper, in awarding the new students with their scholarships.

New student, Shakera Siddiky, studying MA Corporate Social Responsibility, from Bangladesh, said: ‘It was a great evening! It really feels great to meet other scholarship winners and the whole evening has helped us to realise the worth of the scholarships we have won.’

For new student, Tenzin Jigdal, from Shillong in north-east India, the evening marked an especially proud moment in his academic career. He had originally applied for a Bachelors degree scholarship at London Met in 2003, but was unsuccessful. Determined to gain a place at the university, he worked hard for three years at University of Madras, in Chennai India, to achieve a first class degree, finally securing a scholarship and coming to London to study for his Masters degree here.

In addition Himu Hasnat, a MSc Digital Communications Networks graduate
was awarded an Alumni Scholarship for being one of the top London Met bachelors degree graduates in 2007.

The evening was a celebration of the culmination of all the scholarship students' hard work and achievements.
