London Met Lecturer to launch major installation project
London Metropolitan University’s Course Leader for Computer Animation, Paul St George, will be the lead artist on a major international installation and live event taking place in London from 22 May 2008.
The precise details of the stunning event are currently undisclosed, but the installation is likely to be built somewhere along the River Thames in Central London. The event is set to be a major feature in London’s cultural and tourist calendar for over a month this summer.
Paul will be working with Artichoke, a creative company that puts on extraordinary events, working in a range of locations. He will be working alongside Artichoke on their latest project, which takes inspiration from the ‘dreamers’ of the Victorian period. These dreamers were the men who imagined the impossible, from suspension bridges to metal steamships, from canals through the countryside to viaducts through mountain ranges.
The collaboration will produce an event suspended between illusion and reality. A journey under the Atlantic will seek to explore a world that might have been conceived by HG Wells or Jules Verne.
A spokesperson from Artichoke described the event as, ‘a world in which two nations divided by a common language are united by an astounding invention that has lain undiscovered for well over a century. This astonishing invention may just be the answer to global warming, instant access to a world 4000 miles away without leaving so much as a carbon toe print.’
Speaking about the collaboration, Paul said: ‘I am really excited about this amazing project. It will bring to life the dreams of people like Brunel, HG Wells and others in a way that uses the best of modern technology.’
Artichoke’s mission is to move the arts from behind the closed doors of theatres and art galleries, and to put on ambitious and complex shows that reach the widest possible audience. They are best known for their enormous Sultan’s Elephant (pictured) which toured London last year. Artichoke also work as consultants through their non-charitable company, Artichoke Productions Ltd.
