London Met at the London Games Festival
BSc Computer Visualisation and Games students at London Metropolitan University are taking part in this year’s London Games Festival, a week-long cultural celebration of games and interactive entertainment taking place across the capital from 22 October.
On 27 and 28 October, the London Met team, in conjunction with Gamelab London and Genius Telecom, will run an interactive text treasure hunt in the City where participants receive clues on their mobile phones via sms.
‘Text 4 Treasure’ is free to enter and teams of friends and families are encouraged to come along and play over the weekend. Players/teams register by texting a short code number and are sent a team codename. The winners are the team with the best answers.
Gamelab London is an interactive media initiative, set up by Martin Wright in the Department of Computing, Communications Technology and Mathematics at London Met. The project started in 2004 with the aim of providing students and graduates with an opportunity to work in a commercial, client-based environment.
Created by the London Development Agency, and with the full support of the industry, trade bodies (ELSPA and Tiga) and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, the London Games Festival will provide an exciting week of consumer and trade events in the capital.
Other events include Video Games Live, a ground-breaking new live performance showcasing the thrilling music of video games, performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and choir, and Dare to be Digital, the UK’s premier video games design competition for university students, which features London Met student, Ros Darvill, as a finalist.
