JCAMD Academic showcases work in Japan
A chair designed by William Warren, Senior Lecturer in Furniture and Product Design at the Sir John Cass Department of Art, Media and Design, has been featured in Metropolis, Japan’s largest distribution English language magazine.
Warren is also looking forward to a solo show in Tokyo later this month, where he will showcase five new pieces of work developed in Japan. The show will be launched on 31 0ctober, the start of Design Week in Tokyo.
Warren’s ‘Victoria Chair’, which featured in Metropolis, fuses traditional style and modern material with humorous results. By taking the ornate shape from a balloon backed 1830’s French chair and incorporating it in modern dining chair, Warren is offering anyone the opportunity to have ‘a dash of royalty’ in their household.
‘This chair is the wife of the Silhouette chair I designed in 2002. It is developed from the shapes and shadows of traditional chairs, cut from formed plywood,’ Warren said. ‘I want my designs to engage with people and encourage them to rethink the everyday objects they have around them.’
