Graduate engineers herself a top job
Ask the average person on the street how they feel about ‘embedded systems’ and they’d probably give you a blank expression. But ask London Met Faculty of Computing graduate Shweta Ahire and she’ll talk to you passionately all day!
A Mumbai native, the young engineer came to London to study for an MSc in Embedded Systems because, in her opinion, “it’s more advanced here (in the UK) than anywhere else.”
Shweta said: “Everything is about embedded systems right now – it’s booming! So I wanted to come to the UK to do my MSc. I got offers from other universities, but I chose London Met because it was the best course.
“Also Muhittin Onadim, the Course Leader of Embedded Systems, is the most talented person in the industry.”
Embedded systems are specialised computer systems which function within larger structures or machines. They are almost invariably found in mechanisms with digital interfaces, such as ATMs, Oyster card readers, washing machines and microwaves.
Shweta excelled in the subject, and was also nominated by her peers to be a Student Academic Representative (StAR).
Having completed a biomedical engineering degree at Mumbai (Bombay) University, moving to London must have been a culture shock for Shweta, but she sees surprising similarities between the two cities.
“In many ways, London is a lot like Mumbai in that they’re both huge and there’s lots happening.”
With a passion for her subject and determined work ethic, Shweta represents the very best of London Met. So what advice does she have for new students?
“Complete your degree for knowledge, not just for the degree itself. Try to learn and implement as much as possible from the subject you are studying.”
Shweta now works as an engineer for multinational company Kinesis Limited in Cambridge, a job she was offered while still studying her Masters.
