Student Enterprise Society launched
London Met entrepreneurs (LMe) is the brand new student run enterprise society, supported by the National Consortium of University Entrepreneurs (NACUE) and London Metropolitan University.
The society launched with its exciting ‘Meet the Entrepreneur’ speaker series. The events introduced key business people, from different stages of the business start-up cycle, who took to the floor and discussed their exciting entrepreneurial journeys and the challenges they have faced and overcome.
The first term has been extremely successful for LMe and the real highlight was London Met welcoming John Bird, Founder of the Big Issue to take a speaker session. His charismatic speech and tips for success enthused the audience. John extended his generosity and networked with students, answering their many questions after his talk.
As well as the ‘Meet the Entrepreneur’ speaker series, the society gets involved with Global Enterprise Week, where students can connect with enterprising students at the Xing Business Challenge; a ‘Setting up a Business Series’, where students can develop knowledge and skills to start their own business; as well as the London Met ‘Pitch It’ Business Plan Competition, where students can compete against each other to win large cash prizes up to £5,000.
Matthew Connelly, London Met’s Student Enterprise Development Manager expresses the benefits of students taking part in their societies: ‘Our enterprise society is free and open to all London Met students, offering them an excellent opportunity to learn more about every aspect of setting up a business and acquire the skills needed for entrepreneurial success. In addition, we offer students the opportunity to become members of the LMe committee, where they can shape the future of the society, whilst creating a model of best practice. Taking lead roles enables them to enhance their employability skills and add additional business activities to their CVs.’
