Cass alumni, staff and students lead printmaking renaissance

An exhibition in London’s West End called First Impressions is to feature new work from twenty six artists who are all, in one way or another, associated with the celebrated print room at London Met's The Cass (The Sir John Cass Department of Art, Media and Design.)

CASSA Art has mounted the exhibition at the Royal Opera Arcade Gallery to celebrate a resurgence in printmaking. First Impressions has been curated by Fine Art students Caro Millington and Sarah Knight, inspired by the stimulating environment of the print room at Commercial Road. The exhibitors include current students, alumni, teaching staff including Nigel Oxley and David Skingle, as well as artists in residence Susan Aldworth and Rebecca Jewell.

The prints in First Impressions include etchings, screen prints, wood cuts and aquatints. In addition, a small number of remarkable monoprints will be on show. Like artists from Hogarth and Durer to Hockney and Emin the artists showing their work here relish the medium of print.
