Performing arts alumni to see in the new year with an exciting project in Indonesia
The New Year will bring even more fantastic opportunities for London Met Performing Arts alumni and students as four of them are offered a unique experience to work in Jakarta Indonesia.
Alumni Jenny Glithero, Sam Quinn, Juancho Gonzalez and year three student Salwa Lalaoui have been asked by Project Phakama to collaborate on a partnership project with the International English School in Indonesia to produce a site-specific piece at their site in Jakarta.
Project Phakama will bring together a mixed group of young performers for a two week residency from 30 January to the 13 February 2010. They will be required to contribute creatively to the whole process and run workshops while in Indonesia. At the end of the stay there they will present a piece created through collaboration with local students and artists.
They are also planning to work with some local young people who are trash collectors with the view of some of them participating in the Trashcatchers Carnival in Tooting in 2010. Working ‘from the ground up’ the carnival will unite over 60 artists and over 1000 Tooting residents in a yearlong process looking at transition from a high energy to a low energy community.
Project Phakama is a collaborative arts organisation, they produce outstanding work based on the combined personal experiences of young people from all over the world Director of Project Phakama Fabio Santos and Facilitator Corinne Micallef are both visiting lecturers on the BA Performing Arts at London Met giving students and alumni the opportunity to work on their projects for the last few years.
