London Met develops partnerships in the United Arab Emirates
London Metropolitan University has several exciting projects underway in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after delegation from London Met including the Deputy Vice Chancellor Bob Aylett visited the area.
The visit came as a result of comprehensive investigations into the Abu Dhabi market by Roddy Gallacher, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Arts, Languages and Education, and Dr Amer Hosin, Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Life Sciences.
During their trip in June 2009, the delegation established partnerships with several institutions including the Abu Dhabi Police, the Higher Colleges of Technology, the Ministry of Education and the Statistics Centre.
London Met has signed an memorandum of understanding with The Statistics Centre, which forms part of the UAE government’s Department of Strategy and Development. Together they plan to provide training and help with staff selection, and eventually run a new Masters in Statistical Methods.
The Faculty of Life Sciences has been delivering a series of short courses in Forensic Science for the Abu Dhabi Police. Plans are also in the pipeline to run an MSc in Forensic Science from September 2009. This will then be followed by the development of a Professional Doctorate in Policing Security and Community Safety as a progression route for students who have completed either the MSc Forensic Science or MSc Information Security and Digital Forensics, which is to be delivered from 2010.
In partnership with the 16 Higher Technology Colleges in the Emirates, London Met will deliver a number of courses including; BSc Nutrition, BSc Food Sciences, MSc IT, MA Managing School Improvement (and other teacher development courses) and MA in Advanced Health Development. A range of business Continuing Professional Development courses will also be offered in financial services, human resource management, and purchasing and supply chain management.
