Dr Muhammad Shahidullah scholarship winner
London Metropolitan University is pleased to announced the winner of its 2009/10 Dr Muhammad Shahidullah scholarship programme for outstanding students from Bangladesh.
This year's winner is Mr Mahbub Alam a Clinical Physiotherapist in charge of stroke rehabilitation at the widely respercted Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Mahbub will be joining the University in September to study on the MSc Public Health course.
In addition to five years experience in managing stroke rehabilitation programmes, Mahbub has dedicated much of his time to voluntary activities ranging from organising disability sports events to acting, dance and modelling assignments.
'I am very happy about winning this prestigious scholarship', Mahbub commented, 'Dr Muhammad Shahidullah has such a strong reputation in my country and I am very proud to be able to represent the best of Bangladesh through this programme. Public health initiatives are very important in our country; there are huge inequalities in health and this course will help me create a platform on which to remove the prejudices against people with disabilities in Bangladesh."
The Dr Muhammad Shahidulla scholarship is decided annually by a panel of eminent academics and business people in Bangladesh. 'Its very important for us that these scholarships are decided in Bangladesh, by Bangladeshis and the University", explained Mark Bickerton, Director of Student Recruitment and International Development at London Met.
