Busy two years for successful London Met graduate

Jun Li and Karim Ouzanne

MSC Software Engineering graduate, Jun Li, has completed both a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) and a PhD in only two years.

Jun Li graduated from London Metropolitan University with a distinction in 2007 and was selected to work on a KTP with Essex Disabled People’s Association (EDPA) by Dr Karim Ouazzane, Reader in Intelligent Systems at the University’s Faculty of Computing.

Over the course of his research, Jun Li made an outstanding contribution towards developing state-of-the-art ideas to help disabled communities to communicate with the outside world through accessibility. His findings have been disseminated through conferences, journals, seminars and presentations to organisations such as the British Computer Society (BCS).

Within two years Jun Li succeeded in producing an intelligent keyboard for disabled users.  As a result of his major contribution, the EDPA have decided to build a lasting relationship with London Met. Offering his congratulations, Richard Boyd, Chief Executive of EDPA said:  ‘This was a result of hard work, commitment, creativity and superb skills.’

Remarkably, Jun Li also used his two years on the KTP scheme to complete a PhD on ‘Noisy language modelling framework using Neural Network Techniques’ in addition to contributing to the London Met’s research activities and leading workshops with MSc students.

Jun Li has now been offered a position at Cambridge University as a research scientist. He remains committed to contributing to future research at London Met and will continue working with Dr Ouazzane on a number of research topics and potential commercial products.
