London Met songwriter gets his teeth into Hollywood
A London Metropolitan University student has had one of his songs chosen for the soundtrack of cult American vampire movie Twilight. Bobby Long’s song, Let Me Sign, was co-written with friend Marcus Foster and actor Rob Pattinson who also stars in the film.
Twilight, released late last year, is a romantic-fantasy film based on the cult American novel of the same name. It has become a cult hit amongst younger audiences.
Bobby Long, who is studying BA Music Technology (Sound for Media) said: ‘We wrote it on a roof in Soho in the summer at a time when we shirked work and just wrote music all day. It was the last of a selection of songs we had written and it didn't really have any context other than trying to write something.’
Let Me Sign, was eventually recorded by Rob Pattinson who put it forward for use in the film. Bobby said: ‘We only heard it was going to definitely be in the film a week before it all had to be finalised.’
Although he is now concentrating on finishing his degree and recording and performing his own music, Bobby Long did spare some time to go to the Leicester Square premier of the film. Bobby said: ‘There were thousands of screaming girls and walking down the carpet was nerve wracking but fun. I would like to do it again. We milked it!’
