How to Get Ahead and Lead London
The third Get Ahead conference was held on 11 February 2009 in the Graduate Centre at London Metropolitan University.
It attracted a larger crowd than previous years and organisers noted that attendance to workshops had more than doubled.
The Get Ahead conference was organised by London Metropolitan University’s three Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning and supported by Student Services.
The conference was free and open to all London Met students. A buffet lunch was provided and the first 150 students who arrived on the day received a 1Gb USB wristband. They also enjoyed a performance from London Metropolitan University’s celebrated choir (pictured).

The event exists to support students in developing their academic and employability skills in an interactive and fun atmosphere. The day included workshops, a discussion panel, a keynote speech from Vice-Chancellor Brian Roper, stallholders offering advice and information, as well as free food and entertainment.
New to the conference this year was the ‘Leading London’ initiative. Leading London aims to make employers aware of the talent on offer at London Metropolitan University and they hosted a popular job search workshop in the afternoon.
Campus Services, Operations Manager, Andy Mitchell, said: ‘The conference clearly shows how developing academic and employability skills is very important to our students and the amount of positive feedback we heard clearly reflects how much participants enjoyed the workshops.’
