AJ Retrofit Awards 2016

Cass tutors make shortlist of prestigious annual prize.

Two practices with tutors who teach at the Cass have been shortlisted in the AJ Retrofit Awards 2016. Cottrell & Vermuelen who lead undergraduate studio 4 are shortlisted in the Education Project category for their Brentwood School Learning Resource Centre. Caruso St John (whose Peter St John leads Unit 12) are shortlisted in the Cultural Buildings category for the Gagosian Gallery, Mayfair project with Tate Hindle.

The AJ Retrofit Awards were created by The Architects’ Journal to recognise and celebrate design, engineering and construction excellence that prolongs and improves the life of the built environment. With £500 billion likely to be spent over the next three decades on upgrading existing housing, commercial and industrial buildings, retrofits will play a significant part in the future of the construction industry.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at the Brewery in London on 14 September. The AJ Retrofit Awards are sponsored by Sapa Building Systems this year. Judging for two categories – houses under £500,000 and offices over 2,000m² – is still taking place, and the shortlists for these categories will be revealed next week.
