Violence in Schools - Intelligence on the Net: Archives of Resources for
Youngsters

This European project created, evaluated and documented a transnational web-based platform for teachers, parents, pupils and experts, dealing with issues of violence prevention in schools. We collaborated with partners from the University of Landau, Germany; Vordingborg Statsseminarium, Denmark; University of Joensuu, Finland; and Universidade de Lisboa in Portugal.

The project's web sites combines different forms of information and communication technologies (ICT). The site is organised into 4 areas:

  • Background - information on violence in schools and its prevalence in each of the partner countries
  • Information - our link collection, containing links to over 100 web sites and online resources relating to violence prevention in schools, organised by categories for ease-of-use, and a news section containing topical news items
  • Communication - discussion forum for registered users to interact and hold conversations with each other, and a mailing list for subscribers to receive and exchange information about violence in schools
  • VISIONARY - more information about the project and the organisations and people involved.Image of web sites included in the Visionary portal

The web site aims to simplify the time-consuming search for information and materials through the development of links with other national and transnational web sites.

By means of discussion forums and mailing lists, users are able to network and communicate about issues, problems and alternative perspectives. The utilisation of both the mailing lists and the discussion forums takes into account the different communication preferences of users. Mailing lists and discussion forums are qualitatively different environments and will encourage different models of discourse.

There is a site specifically for UK-based materials and resources, a site for each of the partner countries, and an International site that combines appropriate examples of good practice from all the sites for an International audience.

The UK site URL is: http://www.violence-in-school-uk.info

The International site URL is: http://www.violence-in-school.info

The project was supported by the SOCRATES / MINERVA programme of the European Commission.
