Case Studies in e-Learning Practice
This
project was funded by the Joint Information
Systems Committee (JISC), through its e-learning
and pedagogy programme in 2004.
The
project has produced 6 case studies in e-learning practice that demonstrate
different approaches to effective e-learning. The case studies cover
HE, FE, Adult Community Learning (ALC) and Sixth Form.
The case studies provide evidence of pedagogically sound, learner
focused and accessible activities that demonstrate the thoughtful and
effective application and/or development of modular tools, environments
(e.g. MLEs) and standards.
The project complements
the broader aims of the e-learning and pedagogy programme (e.g. the
collaborative development and testing of a generic toolkit framework). The
overall aim of the project was to validate the instruments developed by
JISCs e-learning models desk study – through producing
case studies
aimed at supporting practitioners in realising innovative e-learning
practice.
The six case studies produced are:
- Arguing for the sake of it: using AcademicTalk, an innovative dialogue tool to support critical discussion and reasoning between peers: Institute of Educational Technology, Open University. (HE)
- Using learning objects to enhance blended learning: London Metropolitan University. (HE)
- Continuing and professional development at a distance: Middlesex University and Islamic University, Gaza. (HE, CAPD)
- Digital threads: training British Asian women in the use of advanced computerised sewing machines: Community Grid for Learning, WEA North West Region. (ACL)
- Historical e-learning: using an intranet to support the teaching of AS/A2 Level History: Richard Huish College, Taunton. (FE/Sixth Form College)
- Keeping to the beat: Reid Kerr College, Paisley, Scotland. (FE)
The project was co-ordinated by LTRI, in conjunction with James Clay from the Western Colleges Consortium.
