Anytime Learning Literacies Environment
A 12 month JISC-funded Learning and Teaching Innovation project led by he University of West London (formerly Thames Valley University). Beginning in July 2010, the project has developed and evaluated a scaffolded digital learning literacy environment, which enables learners to embark on an interactive learner journey, using reusable learning objects, supporting their learning and literacy acquisition. Existing and new interactive materials have been brought together in a cohesive and structured framework enclosed in a wraparound shell.
The learner journey is in 3 parts and includes these topics:
The academic journey
- Concept mapping and note making
- Writing for academic purposes
- How to use academic language
- Referencing
- The library learning journey
- What is the information landscape?
- Finding my way around
- Using journals
- Digital tools for learning
- Communication and presentation tools
- Using Prezi for presentations
- E-portfolios
- Using YouTube
- An introduction to VLEs
The learner journey is available from:

All the learning objects have been created using the GLO Maker learning object authoring tool [www.glomaker.org], which enables them to be adapted for specific needs.

The project involved:
- Reuse of RLOs produced by the RLO-CETL and other institutions
- Use of the GLO Maker Generative Learning Object authoring tool to adapt and create RLO’s for digital literacies
- Embedding the created learner journey in a number of authentic contexts at both London Met and UWL
- Creating an evaluation framework and evaluating the learner journey in use in the different authentic contexts.
The project builds on and extends another JISC-funded project that the two Universities collaborated on, ‘Blended Learning 4 Academic Competence and Critical Enquiry (BL4ACE), which also reused learning objects from the RLO-CETL and other UK institutions.
