BA (Hons) Politics, Philosophy and Economy

This is an integrated, multidisciplinary course that aims to provide a general education in the socio-economic, political and cultural processes that shape our lives, and in the scientific and philosophical methods that make our understanding of these processes possible. You will come to understand the inherently ethical basis of all human thought and action, including your own. You will be provided with a critical understanding of social and cultural modernity, covering politics and economy as well as communications and cultural studies. The School's strong research base and thriving alumni community help maintain links with employers and city institutions.

Course structure

Three levels, each of 120 credits.

Optional Professional Placement Year with additional Professional Accreditation

All London Metropolitan Business School undergraduate degree programmes offer an optional, 12-month professional work placement, normally taken after the first two years of study. The placement year offers students the opportunity to gain an additional 30 credits at degree level and valuable graduate level work experience Additionally it provides students with an internationally recognised City and Guilds Licentiateship Award and eligibility for membership of The Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM).

Career opportunities

The knowledge acquired of the socio-economic and political environments, together with the skills that you develop, provide excellent preparation for a wide range of careers in public sector organisations and commercial companies, including the media. A sizeable proportion also progress to postgraduate study.

Applications from access courses are strongly encouraged.

Entry requirements

Click here for the University's standard entry requirements. In addition, the current requirement is 200 points or equivalent. You should also have GCSE grade C or better, or equivalent, in English Language. Above all, we would expect you to demonstrate, more usually at interview, a strong interest in the aims and objectives of the course.

Accelerated study

It is also possible to seek direct entry at levels 2 and 3, subject to you satisfying the course team that your prior academic work elsewhere is appropriate.
