LONDON METROPOLITAN BUSINESS SCHOOL

The TSCI Subject Group within LMBS holds specialist business and management knowledge about arts and heritage, cultural industries, the events management industries, hospitality, music and new media industries, tourism and travel, recreation and sport. Together these comprise some of the most dynamic and economically significant industry sectors. In London, the UK and in many countries across the globe, businesses, public and voluntary organisations from these sectors seek talented graduates and postgraduates, and seek to involve themselves in a dialogue with higher education.
We provide the industry relevant expertise to our four two-year degrees, eight bachelors degrees and four Masters degrees. We are currently developing a further suite of Masters degrees. Our approach is marked by:
- An industry focus - we look for dialogue and exchange with the sector. We have embarked on an ambitious programme of appointing industry advisors, and of bringing in key industry figures as visiting professors. In particular, we have recently developed our own business partnership platform, Events Management Knowledge, which is working on knowledge transfer agendas with businesses in the sector.
- International - our sector is one where international, global and local issues interact. We seek to reflect this in our scholarship and course provision. To further this we have links with institutions in France, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands. We are currently developing joint provision with institutions in France, the Netherlands, Russia and the USA.
- Multi-disciplinary - Londonmet and its forerunner institutions has been serving the leisure, tourism and hospitality industries for over thirty years. Our experience has convinced us that the best way to understand the issues facing our sector is a multidisciplinary one. Within the 32 members of the group you will find those with years of management experience in the sector, and those with research backgrounds as diverse as anthropology, business/management studies, economics, environmental studies, geography, and sociology. We bring these together so as to understand our sector in the round.
- Research based - we seek to base our expertise on the best research and scholarship. Members of the Group are themselves active in developing new knowledge, in particular through the work done via the University’s International Institute for Culture, Tourism and Development and the Cities Institute.
