brief biography
Tom joined London Metropolitan University in 2006 as a Senior Lecturer in Event Management, he teaches on the MA and BA Events programmes. Prior to joining the university he spent 9 years working in fundraising events, first at the Royal Star & Garter Home for disabled servicemen and women and then at Christian Aid where he was Events & Community Fundraising Manager. While at Christian Aid Tom completed a Masters in Marketing and Fundraising and travelled widely to collect stories on the overseas projects that he and his team raised funds for.
Tom’s research interests are primarily in the field of education and events and he has published work on the use of audio feedback to students and also on discourse analysis of events. He is currently undertaking a professional doctorate in education at the University of Sussex.

Research interests are in the areas of discourse analysis, digital literacy, social capital and communities of practice.
