responsibilities

Justin is responsible for a portfolio of Undergraduate courses, and their associated course teams, falling within the Tourism, Sport and Creative Industries cluster.

The delivery of the Student Experience is paramount within his role; with an emphasis on student feedback and the National Student Survey, and student support and pastoral care. His role includes a responsibility for course recruitment, alongside retention, progression and achievement. He plays a lead role in the delivery of quality processes, and curriculum and academic enhancement.

He delivers a key role in industry engagement and employability, and recently launched the Partners in Employment initiative which has been welcomed by industry.

brief biography

Justin joined London Metropolitan University as an hourly paid lecturer in 2003, bringing with him a wealth of experience from the publishing, and the public and consumer event industries; alongside consultancy experience gained within the leisure, brewing and manufacturing industries. He achieved a full time Senior Lecturer position in August 2004, and was promoted to Academic Leader early in 2006.

Justin has designed and launched three Masters programmes and he was responsible for guiding his course teams through the 2011 revalidation of the Undergraduate portfolio.

Other notable achievements include establishing skills into the Level 4 curriculum, and embedding Employability in the Level 5 curriculum. In 2009 he successfully devised Creative Management Training, designed to manage Level 4 transition into Higher Education and to enhance belonging. Justin has experience of designing and delivering a variety of multi-media re-usable learning objects, and has an interest in mobile learning.

He has a special interest in experiential learning, and has devised numerous live projects designed to engage his students in the classroom. Justin also has extensive experience of the student care and support agenda.

Justin was awarded the title of University Teaching Fellow in 2010 in recognition of his teaching practice and his work on mLearning, blended learning, and student transition and belonging.

research interests

Justin’s research interests rest with an exploration of the Experience, Emotion, and Participation economies; with a particular interest of these concepts to Event and Experiential Marketing, as well as the Student Experience.

Justin recently won a publishing contract with Taylor & Francis to co-author a text book called Event Marketing Management: A Consumer Perspective; due for publication in 2014. 

He is currently studying a Doctor in Education at the Institute of Education and plans to write his thesis on the Experience Economy in the context of the Student Experience; with a particular focus on Flow and Happiness.

Future Projects

Justin is currently exploring the development of an online Advanced Diploma in Experiential Marketing in association with a key industry contact. He also plans to work closely with the Sir John Cass Faculty of Art, Media & Design during the coming year on a variety of projects, including a short course in Design Thinking.
