The Marketing and Communications Subject Group is a dynamic and expanding group that currently consists of 25 full-time and 15 part-time members of staff with a rich variety of academic and professional qualifications. Staff maintain strong links with academic organisations (eg Academy of Marketing), professional bodies (eg Chartered Institute of Marketing and the Chartered Institute of Public Relations) and a variety of commercial organisations.
Members of the Group are actively engaged in a variety of research and consultancy activities so that their expertise is underpinned with current theoretical and practical perspectives. The Subject Group hosts the Centre for Research in Marketing (CERMARK) which undertakes research into advertising, sponsorship and sales promotions, corporate identity and reputation, direct marketing and the communications dimensions of social marketing and public sector promotional campaigns. It has special interests in the fields of non-profit and voluntary sector marketing, especially the marketing communications of charitable organisations, theatres and museums. Research into tourism and other aspects of place marketing is currently being developed.
Staff within the Group have published extensively in the marketing communications area and have presented papers at academic conferences all over the world. A number of the centre's members have international reputations in consequence of their published work, as evidenced by their receipt of 'outstanding paper' awards from several academic journals and international conferences.
