Employability

Employers are looking for graduates with good interpersonal skills, excellent analytical skills, team working, strong IT and project management skills. However, a recent study by the Institute of Directors (‘Employability Skills Briefing’, Institute of Directors, Dec 2007), found that some of the largest skills gaps were in decision making, problem solving, and numeracy.

Transferable Skills

As a group we are therefore determined to enhance employability opportunities for our students by addressing such gaps and developing in them a portfolio of relevant business skills. We are committed to academic excellence, vocational relevance and personal development. We offer modules and courses that aim to be stimulating, intellectually challenging, yet vocationally relevant by engaging directly with issues of contemporary business practice and theory. Our teaching is delivered in a modern ICT learning environment, and much of it utilises state of the art methods.

Our Courses

We have courses in Information Systems, Transport and Logistics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and we currently have students reading for doctorates and Masters in Research in specialist areas of Business Analysis, Transport & Logistics.

Option Choices

Many courses provide opportunities for students to specialise in their programme of study by making appropriate designate or elective option choices. Read more

As well as providing dedicated courses, many of our modules are also taken by students across the Business School. For example, nearly 2000 students take a foundation or undergraduate module in Business Analysis developing skills in data analysis and information technology, and over 400 students study project management as part of their degree.
