20 Years of Transition in Central and Eastern Europe: Money, Banking and Financial Markets
An international conference organised by Dr Roman Matousek and Professor Nicholas Sarantis, Centre for International Capital Markets, London Metropolitan Business School, was held in the City Campus on 17-18 September 2009.

The conference was organised on the occasion of 20 Years of Transition in Central and Eastern Europe. The main research theme was focused on Money, Banking and Financial Markets in transition economies. Over 120 delegates from almost all EU countries, Israel , Russia and USA attended this 2-day conference.

The programme comprised four parallel sessions and 90 experts from academia and government institutions (BIS, IMF, EBRD, ECB and various central bankers) presented their research papers. The conference was opened by Mr Bob Morgan, Dean of London Metropolitan Business School. Two note speakers Dr Jeromin Zettelmeyer, Director for Policy Studies (EBRD) and Professor John Bonin, President of Association for Comparative Studies, USA, provided a lucid survey of last 20 years in Transition Economies and outlined the challenges for the next decade with specific references to the banking sector and financial markets.

The selected conference papers will be published in special issues of two highly regarded academic journals: 'Economics of Transition' and 'Review of International Economics'.
