MSc Business Economics
Aims of the course
The course aims to equip you with an up-to-date advanced analysis of business economics. It provides a balanced exposition of theoretical and operational issues in business economics; covers analytical techniques and quantitative research methods appropriate for analysing complex problems and issues in the field of business economics. An emphasis on case study analysis will consider the analysis of key sectors as a means of developing your analytical skills and knowledge base. The course will develop further your ability to undertake business research.
Entry requirements
Normally a lower second class Honours degree or equivalent in economics, a joint degree in economics, or a degree containing major components in economics and statistics at both certificate and intermediate level such as finance, business or management studies. Intermediate modules should include business economics, statistics or equivalent. Those without the standard requirements can attend the Graduate Diploma Course in Economics prior to enrolling on this course.
Course structure
You take six taught modules, four of which are core and two are options, together with a dissertation of 15,000 words.

One of the optional modules may also be selected from another postgraduate course, subject to the course leader's approval.
Assessment
A variety of assessment methods are used including traditional examinations, open book computer workshops, essays, reports, in-class tests case studies and presentations.
Career opportunities
The course is of particular interest to graduates seeking careers as analysts at a senior management level in national and multinational corporations, as well as the public, NGO and government sectors. It will also be attractive to economists and managers already in employment wishing to update and expand their knowledge with regards to the global business economy. In addition, the course offers excellent preparation for a PhD in business economics or serves as a platform for students wanting to develop research careers.
Attendance and duration
Full-time: 1 year, 3 evenings a week
Part-time (eve): 2 - 4 years, up to 2 evenings a week
