The Cass has the widest range of specialist facilities in Europe for silversmithing, jewellery and furniture, furnishing and technologies in music.
These facilities include CNC, CAD and CAM for work in metal, wood, plastics, and musical instrument manufacture, as well as extensive workshops supporting instrument-making and repair; furniture prototype and batch production; upholstery and soft furnishing; silversmithing, jewellery and allied crafts; and finishing processes for wood and metal. A range of laboratories supports the study of electronics and acoustics, materials science, and restoration and conservation.
Our extensive art and design resources include studios for graphic design, design and design project management, drawing, furniture design, installation and performance-related activity, painting, interior design, photography, print-making, sculpture, textiles, time-based media, upholstery and 3D.
We have our own video studios, dark rooms and photographic studio plus video and editing suites, a radio and sound editing studio and a screening room. All students have access to computing, photographic and reprographic facilities together with specialist technical support
Metropolitan Works, our professional Digital Manufacturing Centre, is equipped with state-of-the-art design equipment and resources. The London Metropolitan Polymer Centre has well equipped laboratories and workshops for polymer processing and testing. The department has galleries at Central House and Commercial Road that put on shows of international standing, as well as our Frederick Parker Gallery containing the famous Frederick Parker Collection of over 165 chairs dating from 1650.
