What is a foundation year?
Note: Although The UCAS 15th January Deadline has elapsed it is still possible to apply for limited places on this course via UCAS
This Foundation Year in Art, Media & Design, is the first year (or year 0) of a 4-year extended programme of undergraduate studies at The Cass. A foundation year offers the opportunity to enter university twelve months earlier than by the customary route. It provides the chance to engage, explore and experiment with a diverse range of art, media and design subjects. Students build up a portfolio of skills and experience sufficient to guarantee progress to whichever of our degree courses is most appropriate to their needs and aspirations.
Who is the course for?
The course is suitable for anyone planning on higher education and a career in art, media or design fields within the diverse scope of the Cultural and Creative Industries. This includes students who plan to change careers or retrain, or those who may not possess standard qualifications at the point of entry, as well as those who have recently undertaken sixth form or equivalent studies. We recognise that a diverse student intake engenders a vigorous foundation year and we are interested in all applicants who are determined to make the most out of the course. We value commitment above existing qualifications and competencies and are looking more for evidence of future potential than a particular kind of past experience.
