Internships

JYA students may wish to supplement their studies with an internship and gain invaluable professional work experience at the same time. We have excellent links with a wide variety of employers, particularly with not for profit and public sector organisations. See a full list of organisations where previous interns have completed internships.

The Career Development and Employment Service (CDES) can help you find an internship related to your course.  JYA students can do an internship during Part 2 of the Undergraduate Route.   Internships can be counted as credit towards your degree, generally 1 credit gained per 40 hours of internship work and CDES will assist you in fulfilling your home university requirements for internship credit.

CDES will also help you create or update your CV to fit the British job market and give you the best chance of finding a suitable work placement. Students are encouraged to apply early in order to facilitate this process.

Please note that CDES will try and find you an internship in your chosen field, but you do have to be realistic and flexible. It also helps if you have a clear idea of the type of internship you would like do and what you would like to achieve from it. Although CDES has a high success rate in placing JYA students, we cannot guarantee to find an internship for every student.

Students are required to attend their internship site for at least 1-2 days per week.

There is an additional fee for the internship. Currently the fee is £550.

Students applying for an internship must have an English level equivalent to IELTS 5.5, at the time of application. Employers expect to give interns their own projects to work on, and this is not possible with lower levels of English.

The application deadlines are as follows:

Autumn: 30 July

Spring:  15 November
