Course Information

The JYA is in two parts, you can take a combination of these parts depending on when you start your course, and your English level.

PART 1 consists of two sections:

1. General and academic English Class (15 hrs p/w)

  • Fluency practice and conversation
  • Letter and short report writing
  • Reading and comprehension
  • Discussion groups and presentations
  • Listening practice
  • Preparation for undergraduate study

2. Guided Cultural Visits in London

PART 2 consists of four classes:

1. Business or general English Class (3 hrs p/w)

  • Reading and writing
  • Listening and speaking

2. Advanced study skills - Learning and communicating in an academic environment (3 hrs p/w)

  • Independent study skills
  • Reflective learning and seminars (including role play)
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Review of learning skills from Part 1
  • Academic presentations

3. Subject Class (3 hours per week)

  • Choose from undergraduate classes available for JYA students

4. Subject Class (3 hours per week)

  • Choose from undergraduate classes available for JYA students
