Diamanto Vito
MA Public Administration
Chevening Scholarship September 2005
I did my Bachelors degree in Albanian Language and Literature at
"Aleksander Xhuvani" University in Elbasan, Albania, in the faculty
of Social Sciences. I was awarded a Distinction in 1998 with a 9.2
average. Following this I undertook some postgraduate studies in Italy,
then in 1999 I returned to Albania and worked with the Catholic Relief
Services (American NGO) as a Community Liaison Officer.
In 2000, I was employed by The Prefecture of Elbasan Region, in Albania as a Specialist in the Co-Ordination and Development office. My work involved setting up priorities for our region and gaining the involvement and participation of the community members and I co-ordinated these with the national strategy. During this time in 2003 I was also a member of the work group realising the report 'The Development of Elbasan Region through theMillennium Development Group' (MDG) financed by UNDP Albania.
I am really enjoying my course in Public Administration and am doing my work placement at Ealing Council. I really enjoy this, too, as I'm learning so much on my course that I can put into practice. It is all very different from the work practices in public administration in Albania and I hope to take all I've learned back home and implement as best practice to improve operations. I am considering doing my dissertation on the 'Decentralisation of Albania' and examining the public administration reforms that are required.
I like classical music, like Mozart, the Four Seasons and I like
swimming and used to be part of the Swimming team in Albania. I've
travelled to Italy, Greece, Kosova, Macedonia and I would like to
travel to Egypt and Thailand in the future.
I hope to contribute to the improvement of my country in reforming
Public Administration on my return and I know that the education I've
gained will help me tremendously to achieve this."
