Kunsang Dickey was awarded the London Met International Students House scholarship and received 84.2 per cent and a First class Distinction (Hons) together with being awarded as a Gold Medalist from Guru Ghasidas University G.E.C. Bilaspur in 2005 when she was awarded her a B.E. in Civil Engineering. Kunsang was born as a refugee in a Tibetan settlement called Dhondenling in Southern India and was only one of six reserve seats provided by the Indian government to Tibetan students pursuing engineering courses, as a result of her high academic achievements.
In her personal statement, Kunsang said: "I came to the decision of doing my postgraduate studies in MA Marketing at London Met as I feel that after I complete this course I can serve our Tibetan government in exile by using my Marketing skills and expertise to raise awareness of our cause to free Tibet and gain independence." Kunsang also wants to learn Marketing skills to promote century old Tibetan Arts and Culture and ensure their preservation.
Kunsang's voluntary work ranges from teaching uneducated village elders how to do their own signatures by conducting evening classes when she finished her school lessons, to helping to raise funds to build a new village hall and she's also taught English to the young monks of the Zongkar Choede monastery for three months. She's also done talks on Aids awareness to her village settlement. She also participated in many extra-curricular activities and in interested in sports, having won First prize in a 100m running race once and First prize in a school quiz competition. "The opportunity to study at London Metropolitan University is my dream come true", said Kunsang.
