MSc Computing
Sri Lanka

"I studied for my Bachelors degree in Computing and Information Systems at IDM Colombo in Sri Lanka and achieved a First Class Honours degree in 2004, awarded by London Metropolitan University. I then took on a full-time job at Colombo University (Sri Lanka) as an Applications Assistant Instructor as I’d worked there part-time during my BSc studies.

I researched and found that London Met offered the MSc Computing which I wanted to do and I applied. I am a displaced person and with my excellent academic achievement I was encouraged to apply for a scholarship, which I did and was delighted to receive this award. I started my MSc Computing course in London in September 2006 and am grateful for this opportunity. The course is an excellent one and I am especially interested in modules like Information Security, Research Methods and Software Engineering, which are second semester subjects. I am keen to learn as much as possible about Security and Research, as these are always needed in today’s business world.

My father is a retired schoolteacher and he influenced me to go on to university and was very proud of my First degree and I hope to return to Columbo University to continue working when I conclude my Masters studies in London.

Sri Lanka is a developing country and very different to London. The life and pace in London is very fast it took me a bit of time for me to get used to it. I have also visited other parts of the UK and the UK is a lovely country to study in. I am now also lecturing part-time in Software Engineering and this is also very good work experience for me.

I would like to do a PhD in Computing in the future after I have a break from my studies."
