LLB - Business Law
East Timor

"In 2005 I began an Advanced Diploma course in Management Information Technology at East Timor Institute of Business. I heard about the scholarships for E. Timorese students via the Ai-Kameli Trust and I applied. At the same time, I was working as a Field Researcher for the USAID Funded Project addressing land issues in E. Timor, called the USAID/ARD East Timor Land Law Program. The aims of the project were to help the E. Timor government in the area of legislation for land laws, as this was one of the biggest challenges to ensure the government establishes security of land Tenure and to guarantee foreign investment.

I researched the Law courses on offer before choosing to study at London Met. I was impressed with the LLB - Business Law course as this is relevant to my previous work experience and for the development strategy of E. Timor. I believe that the LLB Business Law course studying property law, land law, etc, will be very useful in the development of E. Timor, particularly with regard to property law. I am very pleased to have been offered a full Ai - Kameli scholarship and thank them, together with London Met and International Students House for this great opportunity.

As a newly established country (May 2002) there are still huge challenges ahead for E. Timor, particularly in the development of human resources.

I believe that education is very important and my family encouraged me to study. Also, as E. Timor is a developing country we need many professionals with the knowledge and expertise to advance the nation. London is a great city to study and to live in and I'm enjoying myself, whilst trying to study as much as possible, too."
