Chikuta Chibule

Scholarship student September 2004
MA Health and Social Policy

"I'm from Zambia where I was teaching high school students history for around five years. I wanted to come to London to experience life in the city centre — it's always seemed really cosmopolitan to me. The culture here is fascinating, and I love being able to taste food from all over the world. A Zambian who once studied here recommended London Met to me. When I wrote off to the University, they were quick in responding to me, and the information in the brochures was accurate and told me what I needed to know.

I was a bit worried that the course was going to be really difficult and maybe there would be a lot of prerequisites for getting in, since I wanted to move away from teaching but didn't have much experience in Health and Social Policy. But that wasn't the case, and being able to get a scholarship to study here has been a fantastic opportunity for me.

I live in the Students' Halls of Residence, the Arcade, where I have met fellow students from different parts of the world. We get along really well and sometimes cook our traditional food for each other at the weekends.

I would recommend London Met to anyone who wishes to study in London, because the members of staff are extremely understanding and always ready to help when you have a problem.

Eventually I would really like to work somewhere like the World Health Organisation — that's my goal."
