Professor Hessaby Scholarship

This scholarship is in honour of Professor Mahmoud Hessaby who dedicated his life to Physics, Science, Research and Teaching.

History:  Professor Hessaby was educated first in Beirut, he obtained his Biology degree at the age of seventeen. He later earned Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering, Medicine, Mathematics and Astronomy.  He continued research in Physics on “Sensitivity of Photoelectric Cells” and received his PhD in the age of twenty-five from Sorbonne University.

After that, he returned to Iran and played a significant role in Iran’s development and modernisation. He established the first University in Iran called Tehran University, he was elected as Culture Minister in 1950s, in 1973 he was awarded the medal of “Commandeur de la Legion d’Honneur”.

Due to his invaluable services to Science and his country he was given the title of "Father of Modern Physics". The Dr Hessaby Foundation was established to continue all different aspects of his work, highlighting his belief that giving priority to research and researchers is the basis of scientific and industrial progress of a country.

  • The minimum academic requirements for an Iranian postgraduate student to be considered for the Professor Hessaby scholarship would be as follows:
  1. Bachelors degree from a recognized university with a minimum GPA of 14/20 or a Masters degree from a recognized university

  2. Minimum IELTS score of 6.5
  • Students applying for the Professor Hessaby scholarship must hold an unconditional offer on one of our Masters courses.

 

The Professor Hessaby scholarship will support one student from Iran and cover the tuition fees for a Master Programme at London Metropolitan University.

The application deadline will be 31 May 2011 for courses starting in September 2011. Interested students may fill in the application form and return it by post (see below) or apply online.
