Dr. Muhammad Shahidullah Scholarship
This scholarship is in honour of Dr Muhammad Shahidullah, who was passionate about education and the first Indian Muslim to receive a doctorate degree. Dr Muhammad Shahidullah graduated from the Sorbonne in Paris in 1928 and was awarded a PhD for his research on the distiches of the Charyapada, the earliest extant specimens of Bangla language. After completing his doctorate, he returned to Bangladesh and started teaching. In 1937, when the Sanskrit and Bangla Department was split into two separate departments, he became head of the Bangla Department. He retired from this position in 1944.
HOW TO APPLY
Students applying for the Dr Muhammad Shahidullah Scholarship must hold an unconditional offer on one of our masters courses. The application deadlines are 31st May for courses starting in September (please note this Scholarship is available for September only).
